Florida Real Estate CE Requirements (2026)
The Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC), operating under the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), requires all active real estate licensees to complete continuing education before each biennial license renewal. Here is everything you need to know about your CE obligation.
Sales Associates & Broker Associates
- 14 total hours of CE every 2 years
- 3 hours of Core Law (mandatory)
- 3 hours of Ethics & Business Practices (mandatory)
- 8 hours of specialty electives
- Can be completed 100% online
Brokers
- 14 total hours of CE every 2 years
- 3 hours of Core Law (mandatory)
- 3 hours of Ethics & Business Practices (mandatory)
- 8 hours of specialty electives
- Same requirements as sales associates
Important: First Renewal Is Different
If you are renewing your Florida real estate license for the first time, you may need to complete post-licensing education instead of or in addition to CE. Sales associates must complete a 45-hour post-license course before their first renewal. Brokers must complete a 60-hour post-license course. Check with the DBPR to confirm your specific requirements.
DBPR Renewal Deadlines
Florida real estate licenses expire on a biennial cycle. Your specific expiration date depends on when you were originally licensed. The DBPR assigns renewal dates that fall on either March 31 or September 30 of your renewal year.
March 31 Renewal Cycle
If your license expires on March 31, you should complete your CE by early March at the latest. The DBPR typically sends renewal notices by email and mail around January. We recommend finishing by February 28 to allow processing time.
September 30 Renewal Cycle
If your license expires on September 30, plan to complete your CE by early September. Renewal notices go out around July. We recommend finishing by August 31 so your completion can be reported and processed.
Not sure when your license expires? You can look up your license status on the DBPR License Verification portal. Enter your name or license number to find your exact expiration date and renewal status.
Types of Florida Real Estate CE Courses
FREC-approved continuing education courses fall into several categories. Understanding the different course types will help you select the right combination to meet your renewal requirements.
Core Law (3 Hours — Mandatory)
Every renewal cycle, FREC updates the Core Law curriculum to reflect recent legislative changes to Chapter 475, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 61J2, Florida Administrative Code. This course covers new laws, rule amendments, disciplinary actions, and FREC policy changes that affect how licensees practice. The Core Law course is mandatory — you cannot substitute it with elective hours.
Specialty Electives (8 Hours)
The remaining 8 hours of your CE requirement can be fulfilled with FREC-approved specialty elective courses. Common topics include fair housing law, risk management, property management, contracts, finance, and technology in real estate. You can choose any combination of approved elective courses to reach 8 hours. Comet CE's 14-Hour CE Renewal package bundles Core Law, Ethics and Business Practices, and your specialty hours together for$24.90.
Post-Licensing Education (First Renewal Only)
New licensees must complete post-licensing education before their first renewal — 45 hours for sales associates, 60 hours for brokers. Post-license courses cover advanced topics in real estate practice, law, investment, and property management. After you complete your initial post-license requirement, all subsequent renewals require only the standard 14-hour CE.

How to Renew Your Florida Real Estate License
Renewing your Florida real estate license is a straightforward process. Follow these steps to ensure your license stays active and in good standing.
Complete Your 14 Hours of CE
Enroll in an FREC-approved CE course that includes the mandatory 3-hour Core Law, the mandatory 3-hour Ethics and Business Practices course, and 8 hours of specialty electives. With Comet CE, you can complete everything online at your own pace. Most agents finish in one to two days.
Pass the Final Exam
Each CE course ends with a final exam. You need a score of 80% or higher to pass. If you do not pass on the first attempt, you can retake the exam at no additional cost. Our unlimited practice exams help you prepare effectively.
Receive Your Certificate
Upon passing, you will receive an instant certificate of completion. Comet CE also files your completion with the DBPR on your behalf as your education provider, so you do not submit anything yourself.
Renew Online Through the DBPR
Visit the DBPR online renewal portal and log in with your license number. Verify that your CE completion has been recorded, pay the renewal fee ($32 for sales associates, $36 for brokers), and submit your renewal application.
Confirm Your Renewed License
After submitting your renewal, the DBPR typically processes it within 5-10 business days. You can check your license status anytime on the MyFloridaLicense.com verification portal. Your renewed license card will be mailed to your address on file.
Pro Tip: Complete your CE early in your renewal cycle. This gives you plenty of time if you need to retake an exam, and it means you will not be rushing at the last minute. Your CE credit is valid for the entire renewal period, so there is no downside to finishing early.
