Florida Post-Licensing Guide: The 45-Hour and 60-Hour First-Renewal Requirement
Your first Florida renewal is different — it requires post-licensing education, not continuing education. Miss it and your license becomes null and void. Sales associates complete 45 hours before their first renewal; brokers complete 60.

Post-licensing vs. continuing education
| License class | First renewal (one-time) | Every renewal after |
|---|---|---|
| Sales associate | 45 hours post-licensing | 14 hours CE |
| Broker | 60 hours post-licensing | 14 hours CE |
Post-licensing is one-time and license-class specific. The 14-hour continuing-education requirement that follows is identical for sales associates, broker associates, and brokers.
The deadline
Complete your post-licensing before your first renewal — the end of your initial license period. This is governed by FREC rule FAC 61J2-3.020. Confirm your exact renewal date and status on MyFloridaLicense.com.
What happens if you miss it
Your license becomes null and void — not merely inactive. To operate again in that role you must requalify: retake the pre-licensing course and pass the Florida state exam again (Fla. Stat. § 475.17(3)(c) for sales associates, § 475.17(4)(c) for brokers). A broker whose license goes null and void may instead be issued a sales associate license on proof of completing the 14-hour continuing education course within the 6 months following expiration. Confirm your exact status with the DBPR before relying on any deadline.
A sales associate must complete 45 hours, and a broker 60 hours, of Commission-approved post-licensing education prior to the first renewal of an initial license.Read the full text
